On October 1, we will celebrate the 71st anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Over the past 71 years since the founding of New China, especially over the past 40 years of reform and opening-up, China has made remarkable achievements in economic and social development.
The year 2020 is an extraordinary year in the process of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. On September 8, the National COVID-19 Recognition Conference was grandly held. In his speech, President Xi Jinping pointed out that we Chinese have fought this life-and death battle against COVID-19 with tenacity and fortitude; we will not stop until victory is won. We have forged a great spirit of putting life above everything else, rallying the whole nation, braving danger, respecting science and safeguarding our shared future. The major strategic results achieved in the fight against the epidemic have once again proved the extremely strong leadership of the Communist Party of China, the indomitable willpower of the Chinese people; showed the significant advantages of the socialist system with Chinese characteristics, the solid national strength accumulated since the founding of New China, the core values of socialism and the strong spiritual power of the excellent Chinese traditional culture, demonstrated the broad appeal of building a community with a shared future for mankind.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Sweden. Over the past 70 years, the relations between the two countries have made great progress. Friendly exchanges and win-win cooperation have always been the mainstream and direction of China-Sweden relations. The Consulate-General in Gothenburg will continue to be committed to promoting friendly cooperation between China and Sweden. For a long time, compatriots living in the consular area have actively integrated into the local society, lived in harmony with the Swedish people. While contributing wisdom and strength to the local economic and social development, they always remember their ancestry (home) and committed to promoting exchanges and cooperation between China and Sweden in various fields. I highly appreciate that.
After the COVID-19 outbreak in China, overseas Chinese and students in 7 provinces of southwestern Sweden became extremely anxious and took active actions and donated money and materials to support the epidemic prevention work, which fully demonstrated the patriotism of overseas Chinese that blood is thicker than water. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks for that. Since the COVID-19 spread in Sweden, the Consulate-General has been urgently seeking supplies for overseas Chinese. We has issued epidemic prevention items to overseas Chinese and Chinese students for several times. We have also maintained close contact with local police departments and universities in the province of West Gotland, Gothenburg City, the consular area, and have taken effective emergency measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens. I hope that we can strengthen our confidence, help each other and continue to do a good job in epidemic prevention and control. The Consulate-General will continue to provide support and services to all overseas Chinese groups and overseas Chinese people in the consular area.
