Liu Yandong: Promote TCM Cooperation to Become a Bright "Namecard" to Advance China-Hungary Health Cooperation and People-to-people and Cultural Exchanges

On June 18, 2017 local time, Vice Premier Liu Yandong visited Semmelweis University of Hungary in Budapest and attended China-Hungary Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Education Activities.

Liu Yandong debriefed the updates of TCM education cooperation between Semmelweis University and Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine and the preparation of the construction of the China-CEEC (Central and Eastern European Countries) Traditional Chinese Medicine Center. Liu Yandong also visited the traditional Chinese teaching halls at the university, watched students’ clinical practice of treating migraine with Chinese medicine, and laid the corner-stone for the new building of the university's Health and Science Department.

Liu Yandong said that the TCM is a treasure of the Chinese nation, and it does not only belong to China, but also to the world. President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced in May this year to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Hungary, and the two governments proposed to deepen cooperation in the field of health, especially in the TCM, which opened up vast space for the TCM cooperation between the two countries. It is gratifying to see that Hungary takes the lead in legislating and enacting rules for practicing Chinese medicine in Europe, recognizing and accepting Chinese medicine for national service. It is hoped that the universities of the two countries will create together a high level platform of the TCM education cooperation to train more Chinese medicine experts in need, and the medical experts of the two countries will work together in close collaboration, and take complementary advantages of Chinese and Western medicine, to explore a new model of Chinese and Western medicine to overcome disease. It is also hoped that the Chinese medicine center will not only impart knowledge of the TCM, but also show the traditional Chinese culture and philosophical wisdom in all directions, and promote the China-Hungary TCM to become a bright "namecard" to advance bilateral health cooperation between the two countries and boost bilateral people-to-people and cultural exchanges.
