Xi Jinping Holds Telephone Talks with President Emmanuel Macron of France at Request
2017/09/08

On September 8, 2017, President Xi Jinping held telephone talks with President Emmanuel Macron of France at request.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China attaches great importance to China-France traditional friendship. At my first meeting with Mr. President in Hamburg, the important consensus on developing robust China-France comprehensive strategic partnership was reached. On the basis of mutual respect on respective core interests and major concerns, both sides should continuously conduct closer cooperation and realize high-level mutual benefit and win-win results, in a bid to promote China-France relations for constant, healthy and stable development. China views France and Europe as important forces to safeguard world stability and prosperity, and I support the two countries to maintain close communication and coordination on major global and regional issues.

Congratulating China on the complete success of the BRICS Xiamen Summit, Emmanuel Macron expressed that France and China are comprehensive strategic partners, and France-China cooperation for coping with global challenges becomes more important than ever under the current international situation. France is committed to deepening France-China relations, well conducting institutional dialogues and strengthening cooperation with China in economy, nuclear energy, environment and other fields.

The two heads of state exchanged views on the Korean Peninsula situation. Xi Jinping stressed that China adheres to the goal of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, staunchly defends the international nuclear non-proliferation system, and firmly safeguards peace and stability in Northeast Asia. The Korean Peninsula issue can only be addressed in peaceful manners including dialogues and consultations at last. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, France is expected to play a constructive role in easing the tension and restarting dialogues.

Emmanuel Macron expressed that France is committed to safeguarding peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula, values China’s position and important role in addressing the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue and stands ready to intensify cooperation with China, so as to facilitate the proper settlement of the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.
