Wang Yi Talks about China-Uruguay Free Trade Agreement

On January 24, 2018 local time, when jointly meeting the press with Foreign Minister Rodolfo Nin Novoa of Uruguay in Montevideo, Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed views on negotiating and signing of a free trade agreement between China and Uruguay.

Wang Yi expressed that negotiating and signing free trade agreements between countries are in line with the trend of globalization, conform to the direction in which the history moves forward and are conducive to safeguarding the multilateral trading system and promoting economic development of various countries. China is willing to discuss the work on negotiating and signing free trade agreements with countries of the Common Market of the South including Uruguay in an orderly way.

Wang Yi said that China is a country enjoys a super huge market with a population of 1.3 billion, and is continuously unleashing its market potential. Meanwhile, China firmly adheres to the opening-up strategy featuring mutual benefit and win-win results, has always been a defender and promoter of the multilateral trading system, and stands ready to share its own development opportunities with other countries by building free trade networks. China is also glad to see that Uruguay and other Latin American countries sign free trade agreements with China, which will provide convenience for the countries to enter China’s market and fully conform to the long-term interests of Uruguay and other countries.
