Wang Yi Holds Telephone Talks with Foreign Minister Taro Kono of Japan

On June 26, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held telephone talks with Foreign Minister Taro Kono of Japan at request.

Wang Yi expressed that President Xi Jinping will travel to Japan to attend the G20 Osaka Summit, which will be of great significance for improving global governance, upholding multilateralism, improving China-Japan relations and expanding practical cooperation. It is hoped that the two sides will keep in mind the big picture and long-term development, focus on consensus and ensure the complete, smooth and successful implementation of all agendas.

Taro Kono said that the Japanese side attaches great importance to President Xi Jinping’s attendance at the G20 Osaka Summit and extends warm welcome to President Xi Jinping, hoping for positive signals from the two sides to promote a Japan-China relationship that fits into the new era. The Japanese side is willing to work with the Chinese side to strengthen communication and coordination to ensure the success of the Summit and all related events.
